Michi Vojta, Watershed Coordinator

Michi began working as the Watershed Coordinator with the Texas Coastal Watershed Program in November 2002.  Coming from the Wake Soil and Water Conservation District in Raleigh, NC, where the county recently completed its comprehensive Watershed Management Plan, Michi worked as the Neuse River Conservation Specialist for several counties in the Central North Carolina region.  In her four years with the local Soil and Water Conservation District, she worked with local agricultural communities to reduce non-point source nitrogen inputs into the Neuse River.  To address water quality issues within the urban population, she founded and directed the RiverRevival, an outdoor environmental education celebration that blends exhibits, music, and fun to teach about water quality.  She is also a North Carolina Certified Environmental Educator.

As a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kenya, East Africa, Michi assisted villagers in their agricultural and forestry efforts. Her secondary projects focused on introducing solar ovens and mud stoves, and a letter exchange between Kenyan and American students.  Back in the US, she continues to promote understanding of African cultures in her social and professional circles.

Michi has worked with The Nature Conservancy, North Carolina State University’s College of Forest Resources, US Forest Service, and Oak Ridge National Lab in Yellowstone National Park.  She graduated with high honors from NC State University earning a Bachelor's degree in Forest Science.  An avid athlete, Michi plays and, until recently, coached youth soccer. She enjoys experiencing other cultures, studies languages, camps and "gets outdoors" as often as she can.  Michi is passionate about living simply, even in the US.
